On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, fact-checkers at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) spotted posts on social media platforms that the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has appointed Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli the new Emir of Zazzau.
Pictures of the new Emir flooded Facebook, Twitter and was widely shared across various WhatsApp groups.
The reports that Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli has been appointed the new emir of Zazzau by Governor El-Rufai is true.
To verify the claim, the CDD established that Bamalli’s appointment as the new Emir of Zazzau was approved by the Governor on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
A post made by the Kaduna State Governor on his official Twitter page confirms the appointment of Bamalli as the 19th Emir of Zazzau by El-Rufai.
Also, a statement signed by Ja’afaru Ibrahim, the commissioner of Local Government Affairs in the state said Bamalli who held the title of Magajin Garin Zazzau and served as Nigerian Ambassador to Thailand was appointed Emir following the death of His Royal Highness Alhaji Idris Shehu on September 20, 2020.
Ibrahim said: “Alhaji Bamalli is the first Emir from the Mallawa ruling house in 100-years following the demise of his grandfather, Emir Dan Sidi, in 1920.”
Reports that Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli has been appointed as a new emir of Zazzau is true.
Emir Bamalli’s appointment was communicated by Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani, the Commissioner, Ministry for Local Affairs Kaduna State on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
The appointment of Emir Bamalli follows the death of Alhaji Shehu Idris who died on September 20, 2020.
