AuGF Moves to Minimize Risk of Misapplication of Public Resources

The Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation (OAuGF) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) is organizing a one-day interactive workshop on audit processes and engagement procedures.

The workshop which would be declared open by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, is scheduled to take place by 9 AM on Monday, October 12, 2020.

Supported by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) and the MacArthur Foundation, the workshop would provide a platform for the Auditor General of the Federation, Anthony M. Ayine, to engage federal Permanent Secretaries and Chief Executive Officers of various Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) on auditing processes aimed at minimizing the risk of misapplication of public resources.

Themed, “Audit Processes and Engagement Procedures: Functional Responsibilities of Accounting and Chief Executives Officers of MDAs” the workshop would enable auditors and auditees to interact on the procedures and processes of auditing aimed at improving public financial management, appearance before the Public Accounts Committees of the National Assembly and sensitize heads of MDAs about the partnership between OAuGF and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to block loopholes on revenue leakages.

It would also ensure that heads MDAs have an understanding of response procedures and standardization, the implication of timely response to audit observations and consequences for non-response and allow for the development of strategies that will help minimize the risk of misapplication of public resources.

The workshop is expected to deliver increased cooperation between the auditor and auditees, increased awareness on the constitutional role of the AuGF in preventing corruption, proper utilization of public funds by MDAs, reduce cases of corruption in Nigeria, and ensure that public funds are channeled to activities targeted at improving the lives of Nigerians.

Distinguished and Special guests of honour at the workshop include the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the Head of Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan.
