CLAIM: On September 19th 2019, a Facebook page Get Nigeria Working Again Updates shared a post in a Facebook group with the claim: ‘’ JUST IN! VP Yemi Osinbajo’s Nearly 100 Aides Asked to Vacate their Aso Villa Offices. Osinbajo Looking For Office Space To Accomodate them in Town.’’ The post had 189 shares and increasing with 79 comments and 120 likes. The facebook page itself had 59,258 followers.
FACT: CDD Fact checkers contacted the Office of the Vice President in other to confirm or refute the claim. Our source who prefers to be anonymous said the report was misleading as it does not represent the true state of things. He said ‘’While it is true that some aids have not been able to gain entrance due to a delay in a revalidation of their entrance pass, nobody was asked to vacate the Villa. What is happening is just a security procedure.’’.
The report did not state who gave the order, where and when. This again puts a dent on the credibility of the report and the source. Going through the page, one can also see that it has a history of misinforming the public in a bid to promote narratives that favour it allegiance the main opposition party in Nigeria. For example, on 20 September 2019, the same page had posted a breaking News ‘’Buhari Rewards Judges of Tribunals: Promotes Them To Supreme’’.
CDD can categorically say that there is no report by a credible media that points to the existence of such an order. The closest is a report by the Nations newspaper of September 19th 2019, published on its website. It was reported that there is ’’ alleged plans to relocate some top aides of the Vice President from the Presidential Villa to some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)’’ which remains an allegation which fake news platforms such as Get Nigeria Working Again Update leverage on to disinform Nigerians.
The news by the Get Nigeria Working Again Update therefore is misleading and appears to have built on the existing controversy surrounding the Presidency’s position on the power of the Vice President to approve contracts therefore is meant to disinform Nigerians.
It will be recalled that there are media campaign alleging certain persons within Aso Rock intends to reduce the Vice President’s relevance ahead of 2023.
